We’ve been traveling the world for the last 12 months straight and in that time we’ve used a lot of credit cards. By far the one that stands out the most in terms of a hotel credit card is the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card. This card offers perks that are unmatched by any other card, so let’s jump into why it is so great for a retirement traveler.

Extra Perks

We all love perks and the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card has plenty. Our favorite of them is Automatic Platinum Elite Status. This isn’t just your entry level status, but a very valuable status that will make you eligible for upgrades into suites when you stay at an IHG property with suites available.

We’ve scored some incredible suites from IHG just for having this card. Our most recent win was an upgrade to a 1 Bedroom Suite at the IHG Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in the Philippines. Not only did we get the suite upgrade, but we got it for 16 nights!

You might be wondering why we decided to stay for 16 nights, such a weird number. The reason is because it is a multiple of 4, and if you hold the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card you’ll get your 4th night free when you book with points.

We booked 16 nights and got 4 of the nights for free due to having the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card. It is an incredible deal!

Other upgrades we’ve gotten include a Premium King room with a view at the Intercontinental in Yokohama, Japan and a Lake View Balcony Premium King room at the Intercontinental Westlake in Hanoi, Vietnam.

If you are only going to get one credit card for hotels stays while you travel, this should be the one. With locations across the world and outsized perks it makes sense for almost any traveler.
